Monday, July 30, 2012 1 comments

Mayor Paz Radaza reported her reports to her people or Oponganons last July 25, 2012 at Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City.

When Mayor Paz Radaza entered the Hoops Dome wearing a simple but elegant red gown, she was escorted by the City Council members with the applause and standing ovation from several.

Everytime Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza report what she’ve done for the 1 year to Lapu-Lapu City, Oponganons would never think twice to applause. And the most applaused I’ve ever heard to his SOCA 2012 was when she announced the 14th month bonus for teacher.

Cebu Festival: Binaliw Festival

Monday, July 16, 2012 0 comments

Cebu has a lot of festivals celebrated every year. Some don’t know about the festival but some also known. The most common festival in Cebu City or even international is Sinulog Festival. As they’ve said, Sinulog Festival Is the grandest festival held every year in Cebu City. There are many versions of Sinulog Festival because some cities or province in Cebu also patronize Snr. Sto. Nino as patron.

What is Binaliw Festival?

Binaliw Festival is a festival at Olango Islands patronizing San Vincente Ferrer. This festival is held yearly every month of May. This festival started mystically because it was only being scattered by ancient people by mouth.

When I was first attend this festival, I was very curious what is the meaning of this festival. As ancient spread it, they just do it yearly to offer something to their patron.

They do it and known for the reproductive organ, kidney offering. Ancient believe that if you offer the part of the body which they have illness it will be cured. Sample of the known story, one offer his repdroductive organ since he has illness of his repdroductive organ and said because of the offering he was cured.

From that start, they believe on that story and starting spreading it until this generation and s and they do it yearly but know they also include dancing like crazy.

Hope to attend next Binaliw Festival!

Relax at H-Café – Harold’s Hotel

Saturday, June 9, 2012 0 comments

Upon entering on a restaurant, café, or any food establishment customers look unto the place of the food establishment from the destination, ambiance, the price, the staff and many more.

Most of us know that Cebu City is one of the places that we could find a lot of food establishments. We could find them near at school, near the offices, or even on the “kanto” because everybody will eat. Most of the business oriented people recommended it as a starting business since as what they’ve said everybody will eat and it depends on how the business owner makes his/her gimik.

One of the factors that customers look upon to a food establishment is the price of the food. Customers look on the food that they eat and compare it by price if they pay wisely.

Good thing that H-Café has it all that customers that are looking for from the destination, ambiance, price, staff and many more. During the launching of the their new recipes of H-Café cooked by Chef Dionisio Delos Reyes such as Crispy Pata, Beefsteak Cebuano, and Tablea Choco Moist Cake the new recipes are all good and worth it.

I like when I eat the Crispy Pata because the juicyness of the meat and the crispy skin of the Pata. When I sliced the Crispy Pata you could smell, crispy of the Crispy Pata. You could easily slice the Crispy Pata well without forced since the meat is cooked well. Try their Crispy Pata and you could say “Hhmm,, Yummy! Delisyoso”. :D Spanish yun ah!

Tablea Choco Moist Cake is one the unique cake that I ever eat from the ingredients it “Tablea”. Tablea is a product of “Kakaw” which also be the ingredients to make a “Cocoa”. You could also smell the “tablea” especially when you eat since you could also feel that you’re eating the tablea. Tablea is the ingredients of the Tablea Choco Moist Cake and they also use the tablea to cover the pan of the cake and the design. Yummy Tablea Choco Moist Cake!

The ambiance of H-Café is good. When I enter the restaurant, only one word comes to my mouth “Wow”.  Their General Manager Hembler Mendoza is socializing to their customers and friendly.

I would like you to invite to visit and eat their recipes, food and many more because all services are unforgettable and worth it,

H-Cafes are open daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Enjoy the H-Café buffet which is Breakfast Buffet at PHP250 net, Weekend Buffet at PHP 450 net and Lunch & Dinner Set Menu at PHP 199 net. Before the barangay showcase their contigent for Rampada 2012, barangay showcase first their talent like Impretative Dance, Singing, Beatbox, Comedy Show and a lot more.

What is Rampada?

Rampada is the highlighted event of Kadaugan sa Mactan. It’s a fancy dance parade that in honor to Reyna Bulakna. Rampada is divided into 2 Cebuano words “RAMPA” and “KARSADA”. Rampada is a short name for “RAMPADA SA KARSADA”.

As I remember with the Rampada Jingle “Everybody bets have some fun”. It was my first time to attend with the Rampada 2012 and I would really agree with the quoted line of the Rampada Jingle. I think everybody was having fun with Rampada 2012.

Here are my observations with the Rampada 2012:

The hairdress of the dancers are very colorful and I could see the effort in making the hairdress. No drums and buggles because only Rampada Jingle was played and I loved that. As part of their props, they only have confetti, chanting, blinking lights. They have a very colorful costume that makes your eyes wanted to see. The Rampada dancers are always smiling, dancing gracefully that people wanted to see. Every contigent have their own Lapu-Lapu and Reyna Bulakna and it’s upon to the contigent if they firstly act before they dance with the Rampada Jingle. And I was surprise that the Barangay SK’s chairman is the one who organized to the costumes, fees to their contigent. It shows that Barangay SK’s in Lapu-Lapu matured enough and eager to make the city event more successful. And as estimated, it has over 400, 000 people enjoying the event and hopes next year it will double.

Kadaugan sa Mactan 2012, Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment 2012, Rampada 2012 must consider as one of the Cebu Pride because it can attract to tourist locally and foreign.

I would like invite everybody that if you visit Cebu City especially to Lapu-Lapu City every April 27 – 28 of the year. Try to visit and enjoy Kadaugan sa Mactan 2012, Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment, Rampada 2012, Food Festival and a lot more.

I would love to attend and enjoy again next year and invite my friends to enjoy this yearly event. I will bookmark to my calendar and schedule for the next year Rampada 2012 at Lapu-Lapu City.

The successful Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment 2012

Thursday, May 3, 2012 0 comments

Last April 27, 2012 at Mactan Liberty Shrine, Kadaugan sa Mactan 2012 held. The main characters of the Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment are Datu Lapu-Lapu, Reyna Bulakna and Magellan.

The main characters are played by Philippine Actors and Actress namely Geneva Cruz played as Reyna Bulakna, Richard Quan as Datu Lapu-Lapu and Patrick Garcia as Magellan.

It shows that Datu Lapu-Lapu (Richard Quan) strongly fight against Spaniards by fighting them even Reyna Bulakna (Geneva Cruz) are afraid that their group will lost the fight because they even don’t know what are the styles of the Spaniards in fighting. But before they fight to Spaniards they offered to their “anito” Abbah for the guidance of the coming battle.

But Datu Lapu-Lapu is strongly believed that they must fight against the Spaniards because the land was owned by them and not by Spaniards. Most of the Magellan’s Group was killed by the troop of Datu Lapu-Lapu.

The tribe of Datu Lapu-Lapu was having a feast after Datu Lapu-Lapu killed Magellan during their battle by dancing and offer to the “anitos”.

This event will be held yearly every 27th day of April. This Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment is one of the highlighted event of Kadaugan sa Mactan. Expect that every year, they bring a Philippine Actors and actress that will play the character of Datu Lapu-Lapu, Reyna Bulakna and Magellan.

This event must be seen by all Filipinos especially to all foreign tourists to show the history of Mactan now Lapu-Lapu City.

During the presscon with Lapu-Lapu City Paz Radaza and Philippine Department of Tourism Secretary Calumba, they event is the pride of Lapu-Lapu City and Philippine Department of Tourism Secretary suggest that the Mactan International Airport to Lapu-Lapu International Airport in honored to the heroic action of Datu Lapu-Lapu.

According to Paz Radaza, the Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment budget is down from PHP1.6M last year to PHP1.2M this year because the talent fee of the characters especially to the  main characters such as Datu Lapu-Lapu (Richard Quan), Reyna Bulakna (Geneva Cruz), Magellan (Patrick Garcia).

During also the press conference at MovenPick Hotel with Patrick Garcia, Richard Quan. They accept this role as Magellan and Richard Quan not for the fees because they want to be part of this event “Kadaugan sa Mactan 2012”. They want to know more about the history of Mactan and also the heroic action of Datu Lapu-Lapu.

Again, don’t forget to watch yearly the “Kadaugan sa Mactan2012 Re-enactment” at Mactan Liberty Shrine every 27th day of April.

As I witness the Kadaugan sa Mactan Re-enactment, I was really enjoying the fun of the re-enactment. I feel the essence of the play and could proudly say that I’m Pinoy! Proudly Pinoy!

Growing up in a family of painters, Dorby Alcoseba saw firsthand the struggling life of an artist.

Though his heart is on art, Alcoseba pursued a college degree in computer engineering hoping to have a more stable life. After two years of working in an office job, his love for the art haunted him back.

“The life of an artist is a struggling one. But it’s what I really want. What’s important is to go where your heart is,” Alcoseba, a fulltime painter, said in Cebuano.

The artist is one of the guests in the February 11 episode of Pagtuki, the official radio program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), which is aired at DYLA, every Saturday from 10-11 a.m.

The February 11 episode talks about the "life of an artist", as a celebration for the National Arts month in February.

Having a father and an uncle who are painters, Alcoseba is no stranger to canvass and watercolors. He knew then that painting was his calling, just like his father.

For July Carmel, a degree holder in mass communication, she chose to work as a fulltime dancer in a dance group rather than pursue a career in communication.

Though the pay is not as high as a regular job, she said that what is important is she is happy with what she is doing. Carmel was a scholar for being a member of the university's dance and theater group.

“Performing, dancing...these are my passions,” she said.

Dennis “Sio” Montera, vice president for visual arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, said that a stable income is one of the greatest challenges of an artist.

"Being an artist is a lifetime commitment. It has no boundaries, no limits, and no bosses. But it is not a regular job. Financially, it’s a challenge. Artists need to learn how to be flexible because we all have bills to pay. Despite that challenge, you might wonder why artists are happy... because we are happy with our time and in what we do,” Montera said in Cebuano.

He advised starting artists across different fields to not give up and to pursue their passion for the arts, despite the struggles.

Montera expressed his hopes that the government will initiate programs to further develop and preserve Philippine arts.

“Art should be given importance because this reflects us as a race,” he pointed out.

Seed collection, propagation to perpetuate forests urged

Since most native trees grow from seeds, a non-government organization called on the public to collect seeds and propagate them to contribute to the creation of native tree forests.
Rowena Bandola-Alensonorin, executive director of the Integrated Development unit of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) pointed out the urgent need to replace trees cut down for construction purposes after some parts of the country experienced the tragic effects of flashfloods and landslides.
“The primary importance of trees in the ecosystem is to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and prevent soil erosion. For many people, they see trees as beneficial for building houses, furniture, tools, and for firewood; hence, these demands have significantly reduced the number of trees in the forests,” she noted.
One way to address this is to collect and propagate seeds, which are considered “the next generation of forests.”
Alensonorin said that it is equally important for the people to know not only the names of the native trees but also how to collect the seeds and germinate them.
“The scarcity of this knowledge might have led to the proliferation of exotic tree species, such as mahogany, gmelina, and ipil-ipil that are now growing in our forests. If this will continue, we will not only lose these animals, but also our highly valued trees such as narra, lauan, and mangkono that have been valued here and abroad for their toughness and strength. Our forests should be mainly composed of indigenous trees to provide food and habitat to our native animals,” she explained.
Producing quality trees starts from the quality of seeds germinated. These seeds must only come from healthy mother trees or those trees that bear fruits and produce seeds. Germinated seeds should be nurtured in a well-managed tree nursery that provides a suitable area for these seeds to grow into plantable seedlings for use in reforestation initiatives.
The RAFI Native Trees Nursery collects seeds and wildlings (seeds that germinated underneath or near the mother tree) all over the Visayas region. The nursery is also willing to receive seeds and seedlings from people who would like to donate. The nursery has an existing 150,000 seedlings of 212 native tree species and is located in Barangay Busay, Cebu City.
The RAFI Native Trees Nursery is a mechanism of the GREENIN Philippines Program of RAFI to create forests composed of native trees.

All devotees of Snr. Santo Nino is celebrating the Sinulog Festival 2012 last January 15, 2012 at Cebu City. But maybe they are some of them not a devotee but to witness the Sinulog Festival 2012 in Cebu.

Sinulog Festival 2012 is one of the grandest festival in Cebu or even in the Philippines. Many local and foreign tourists go to Cebu City to praise the Miracle Child Snr. Santo Nino and also witness the Sinulog Grand Mardi Gra.

Maybe one reason why Sinulog Festival 2012 is one the biggest and grandest festival is the colorful costume, the sizzling beat of the drum and bugles and also the people in Cebu.

Now, I would like to share my Sinulog Festival 2012 Experience. It was fun but tired yet satisfying after. We attend the mass at the Basilica Snr. Santo Nino. during the 6am. And I was glad that the celebrant priest is the Archbishop of the Archdiocesan of Basilica de Snr. Santo Nino.

I also take a picture during the mass. Take a look for the picture.
We all so believe the superstitious believe that we must fly a couple of balloons with the paper with the wishlist we want. We list down the wishlist on the paper and tie it on the balloon.

We've seen a lot of colorful costumes that users wore. Though the dancers are stress they are still game to take a picture with the tourist local or foreign. Of course, business is booming on that day. Anywhere on the street their are foods, souveniers such as free name keychain, Sinulog T-Shirts and a lot of more.

During the night, we go the parade of the AMA Sinulog Contingent which I, my girlfriend Jenifer Patilan, Zilfa Villarba and Irish Nuñez are also part of the contingent before we graduated on our Alumni School AMA Cebu Campus.

I was a fun experience with the contingent, people and with your love ones. I can't wait to see the next year Sinulog Festival 2013. I will surely watch the Sinulog Grand Mardi Gra 2013 on the Cebu City Sports Center or SRP if ever.

Devotees sacrifice to fall in line in order to meet and kiss the Virgin Mary. It took almost a hour or more than hour to kiss and meet the Virgin Mary. While waiting for your turn, you can read and see a lot of proven miracles.

Blessed Pedro Calungsod as second Filipino Saint

Monday, January 2, 2012 2 comments

Blessed Pedro Calungsod is Filipino citizen. Why I include here? Because he is a Cebuano. All Cebuano are very proud that one Filipino and Cebuano was beautified.

Now, in year 2012. As expected, Blessed Pedro Calungsod will canonized as saint. If that will happen, Blessed Pedro Calungsod would be the second Filipino and first Cebuano saint in the history. He will be called Saint Pedro Calungsod after the canonization.

In the business side, the Blessed Pedro Calungsod statue is now selling wise and still producing more statues and more prayer book for Blessed Pedro Calungsod.

As we remember the first Filipino saint is San Lorenzo Ruiz which a farmer in the province. Hope, Blessed Pedro Calungsod would be the second Filipino Saint. If Blessed Pedro Calungsod will canonized, the recent Pope Benedict XVI would be the one to host the canonization.

Blessed Pedro Calungsod soon to be saint

To all Cebuano's and Filipinos out there reading this post. Let's pray so that Blessed Pedro Calungsod will be canonized this year 2012. Everything is possible as long as we believe to the power of the Holy Spirit.

It's hard to declared the blessed to be saint. They need to have a miracles happen without the explanation of science.

As one miracle happen,
The authorized miracle of Blessed Pedro Calungsod reportedly happened in 2003 at a Cebu hospital when a woman who was clinically pronounced dead for two hours was allegedly brought back to life through the intercession of Calungsod.

A short brief background of Blessed Pedro Calungsod,

A young martyr

Calungsod, together with companion Blessed Diego San Vitores, was killed while doing missionary work in Guam in 1672. He was 17 years old then. Through their missionary efforts, many were converted to the Roman Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Baptism.

A plot to murder Calungsod and San Vitores started through false accusations that the missionaries were spreading poison through the ritual of the pouring of water or baptism. They were both caught and murdered after baptizing a mother and her child.

Because of his association with the Chamorro natives of Guam, Calungsod is often portrayed with a crucifix and a palm leaf.

Calungsod, who was described by Vatican as a lay catechist and a martyr, was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2000.

The other six candidates for canonization together with Calungsod are: Blessed Giovanni Battista Piamarta, Italian priest and founder of the Congregation of the Holy Family of Nazareth and of the Congregation of the Humble Sister Servants of the Lord; Blessed Jacques Berthieu, French martyr and priest of the Society of Jesus; Blessed Maria del Carmen, Spanish foundress of the Conceptionist Missionary Sisters of Teaching; Blessed Maria Anna Cope, German religious of the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in Syracuse; Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, American laywoman; and Blessed Anna Schaffer, German laywoman.
